The hall, festooned with red, white and blue bunting, balloons and an
array of national flags was packed to capacity for this year's Bourn Proms.
Twenty five separate performances were scheduled to take place. The music
ranged from Bach to Pink Floyd and jazz to Irish jigs.
Bourn School has
a strong musical tradition with a variety of exceptional talent for
its size. This concert is an opportunity for the children to display
this talent and to experience the talent of those older than them who
have developed their enjoyment and enthusiasm for music to higher levels.
The Bourn Proms
is seen as much a community event as a purely school orientated concert.
The response from the local community, in terms of participation and
sponsorship, has, as always, been very gratifying.
The proceeds from
the Proms go towards a music fund which facilitates the acquisition
and maintenance of instruments, equipment and music; visits from professional
musicians; and musical trips. This year we were raising funds specifically
to support the Albert Hall choir trip and the replacement of a very
worn out drum kit!
So far it seems
that we have exceeded all expectations and after subtracting all expenses
have made a magnificent £1500 in profit!
We would like to
say a huge "thank you" to all participants, helping hands,
sponsors, parents who have supported their children in their musical
activities throughout the year and finally to the audience who helped
to make this the best Proms yet!
The Last Night of
the Bourn Proms 2009 is already being planned.

When asked how they wished to be billed they said they had considered
